The Haflinger Sports Days have long become a fixture in the event calendar of horse fans far and wide. It’s all about the perfect mix: Mid-October typically delivering dream weather, then there’s the magnificent backdrop of the Merano/Meran racecourse, plus countless passionate Haflinger sports athletes – there might not be a more picture-perfect way to put the Haflinger breed on the centre stage. And once again, this year’s edition had it all.

Saturday saw the western riders take over the Merano/Meran Equestrian Centre, first with a clinic led by Renata Lunelli and then with a series of Trail, Horsemanship and Ranch Riding contests. 

Sunday was all about trot and gallop racing, after which things became particularly festive – with a celebration honouring the participants of the 2021 European Haflinger Championships. On this occasion, a big thank-you was also extended to the many horse owners who had made their Haflingers available for the Championships: In doing so, they continue to send an important signal, because there is no better showcase for successful breeding than equestrian sports.
